Join Us in Helping the Midwestern Flood Victims

The American Red Cross recently announced that its Domestic Disaster Relief Fund has reached zero and it is being forced to borrow money to help the Midwestern flood victims. The lack of large scale disasters that bring donations to the Red Cross has left it without the money needed to compensate for the rapid depletion of funds. So far, the Midwest flood response has cost approximately $15 million, with an anticipated total of $40 million. To date, a total of $2.3 million has been donated to aid Midwestern flood victims.

It is time to take action and donate to the cause! Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has made a donation to the Red Cross’ Disaster Relief Fund. American Red Cross disaster assistance is free and made possible by donations of time and money. You can help the victims of disasters like the Wisconsin flooding by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Monetary donations allow the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disaster. The Red Cross is currently sending trained volunteers to disaster sites. To become a volunteer visit: www.redcrossinsewis.org and click on “volunteer now.”

The law firm of Hupy and Abraham has added to the outpouring of support to help find the gunman who killed a manager and four customers during a robbery at Tinley Park Illinois’ Lane Bryant store in early February. The firm has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy," said Hupy and Abraham’s Attorney, Peter Naylor. Attorney Naylor practices out of Hupy and Abraham’s Gurnee Illinois office. Anyone who may have information is asked to contact the Tinley Park Police Department at (708) 444-5394 or Cook County Crime Stoppers at (800) 535-7867.

This reward is part of a continuing effort by Hupy and Abraham in apprehending perpetrators of crimes in the Midwest. So far, Hupy and Abraham awards have led to the apprehension of three individuals responsible for the murder of a Milwaukee man; and in a separate case, several individuals responsible for injuring a motorcyclist by stretching plastic wrap across a roadway. The Hupy Firm currently has an additional $5,000 reward posted for information leading to the conviction of the individual responsible for a 2007 double homicide in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Police Lieutenant, Bill Jessup, 935-7360, is in charge of the investigation.

HELP PTC CLEAN UP TV FOR OUR KIDS

Posted January 25, 2008

Have you ever cringed at the raw language, explicit sex, and bloody violence on TV? If you have, you’re not alone and you can act to protect your children. One organization we support is the Parents Television Council (PTC), which is helping to clean up TV. The PTC had an unprecedented impact in 2007, solidifying its position as the proven leader in the fight against TV violence, sex, and profanity. In countless meetings with advertisers, FCC commissioners, Congressional hearings, entertainment industry leaders, network executives and broadcasters, the PTC continued its relentless pressure to clean up television. Ground-breaking Special Reports, work with advertisers and stockholders, campaigns for Cable Choice, and the ceaseless efforts of Grassroots members and our celebrity Advisory Board all contributed to the PTC’s stunning record of success.

Here are several ways to protect your children from offensive TV:

HUPY AND ABRAHAM, S.C., OFFERS $2,500 REWARD IN RISING R&B SINGER'S MURDER CASE

Posted November 14, 2007

The personal injury law firm of Hupy and Abraham, S.C., is offering a $2,500 reward to the first person who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction in the shooting deaths of rising R&B star Yolanda “La La” Brown and her producer, JeTannue Clayborn also known as “Koo-Laid”.

Brown, 21 and Clayborn, 22 were found October 19, 2007, shot to death inside Loud Enuff Productions, a recording studio where they lived in the 5500 block of West Lisbon Avenue.

“We are so disgusted that no one has come forward. So we decided to try to help the process along. It seemed like such a senseless act that we just felt compelled to do something,” said Attorney Jason Abraham, a partner at Hupy and Abraham, S.C.

Investigators continue to seek information for possible suspects involved in the homicides. Anyone with information should contact the Milwaukee Police Department at (414) 935-7360.

This isn’t the first time that Hupy and Abraham, S.C., has stepped forward to offer a reward to assist police in solving a murder or malicious crime. Most recently, the firm offered and paid a $5,000 reward for information, which led to an arrest and conviction in the murder case of 21-year old Kevin Bohannon. Bohannon was murdered in Mitchell Park in July, 2006, as he walked home from work. Months had passed and the case had gone cold. However, less than two days after the reward was announced police received a tip, which led to the arrest of 29-year old Corey Young who later pled guilty to the murder.

In 2004, the firm offered a $5,000 reward, which led to the apprehension of a prankster who caused a serious motorcycle accident in Waukesha County. The prankster stretched tightly wound plastic wrap across the road from traffic pole to traffic pole causing Daniel Buckel and his girlfriend, Theresa Brzycky, to be thrown from a motorcycle into a skid across the asphalt. Injuries from the accident sent the couple to Waukesha Memorial Hospital. The prankster was arrested shortly after the reward was announced.

Hupy, his wife and two children were among the eight hundred people who attended the event at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh. They were among the eight hundred people who attended and contributed to the $1.3 million raised in one night.

Major sponsors include: GlaxcoSmithKlein, Equitable Resources, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Reed Smith, LLP.

While the adults enjoyed the event and bid on auction items, the Hupy children and their cousins sold raffle tickets and assisted with the program.

An interesting feature of the event raised $300,000.00. At the end of the live auction attendees were asked to raise their paddle if they wished to make a donation to JDRF. Donations started at $25,000.00 a person and were gradually reduced to less than a $1,000.00. This part of the program raised $300,000.00, which was also a record.

THANKSGIVING MEALS INSTEAD OF CHRISTMAS CARDS

Posted December 15, 2006

During the Holidays, it is very common for companies to send Christmas cards to their clients. While our law firm wishes to extend those sentiments to our clients and friends, we have chosen to put the money we would spend on cards to better use.

So this year, as we have for a number of years now, Hupy and Abraham, S.C. has donated that money to various charities to provide meals during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

Here are some of the charities that we chose to make donations to this year, one is in each city where we have an office:

Talent for Christ Old Time Gospel, Milwaukee, WI - Our $2,500.00 donation provided 100 food baskets for hungry families in the Greater Milwaukee Metropolitan area for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, Madison, WI - Our donation helped to provide approximately 7,000 meals for families in Southern Wisconsin.

Christ the Rock Community Church, Menasha (Appleton), WI - Our contribution helped this church provide meals for 2000+ members of the Fox Valley community for Thanksgiving.

Home Sweet Home Ministries, Bloomington, IL - This shelter provided two Thanksgiving meals, serving over 400 people on Thanksgiving Day.

Peoria Rescue Mission, Peoria, IL - The firm’s donation provided food, shelter and hope for 90 of the area’s homeless, including a traditional holiday meal on Thanksgiving Day.

Good Samaritan, Decatur, IL - Our donation helped to feed over 400 adults and children for their Thanksgiving meal.

Working Against Violent Environments (WAVE), Rockford, IL - This domestic violence shelter provided Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for many children and their mothers in the Boone/Winnebago county areas.

So, rest assured that we have not forgotten you during the holidays. Instead of receiving that one additional Christmas card, the money was spent to feed the needy this Holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

The purpose of the event was assist parents in providing proper health care to thousands of children entering school who may not have health insurance, provide school supplies to Milwaukee children, and educate parents in child safety. The Hupy Firm provided free fingerprinting as a part of the safety component of the event.

The Health Fair gave parents the opportunity to apply for Medicaid or BadgerCare Insurance, the Healthy Start Program, Child Care and free or reduced priced meals for their children. Free immunizations were provided. Health, dental, vision and mammography screenings were available along with blood pressure, asthma and diabetes testing. After receiving the proper screenings and tests, children were given back-to-school supplies and health care gear.

HUPY AND ABRAHAM SPONSORS PUBLIC TELEVISION SHOW FOR CHILDREN

June 2006

Our law firm along with the Harley-Davidson Foundation and Assurant Health is sponsoring the Reading Rainbow program on Milwaukee Public Television for the next year.

Reading Rainbow is a wonderful program for young children. It is broadcast several times a week on Channels 10 and 36 in Milwaukee and rebroadcasted on high definition channels.

Reading Rainbow is a refreshing change of pace from the type of material usually seen by children on television. It features children’s books done in a way that is both tasteful and interesting to young minds

On May 25, 2006, Reading Rainbow held its 12th Annual Young Writers and Illustrators Awards Reception at Milwaukee Public Television. Winning books were displayed and “Watch My Story” promotions were taped.

As an aside, if you’re interested in an organization that is doing something about cleaning up what children are exposed to on television, look no further than the Parent’s Television Counsel at www.ParentsTV.org.

MAYOR JOINS HUPY LAW FIRM IN PROVIDING THANKSGIVING MEALS

FOR MILWAUKEE FAMILIES

On November 21, 2005, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett joined Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., in giving away Thanksgiving dinner baskets to area residents. The Hupy Law Firm donated 100 baskets to area residents who, without our firm's support, would have not been able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner. Each basket included a 13 - 14 pound turkey, bag of stuffing, bag of potatoes, dinner rolls, several cans of veggies, corn meal mix, package of dinner rolls, gravy, several boxes of macaroni and cheese, and a cake for desert. As each basket feeds 7 - 10 individuals, the program provided a Thanksgiving meals for 700 - 1,000 area residents.

While interviewed for an area newscast, Mayor Barrett stated that our community is fortunate to have organizations like the Hupy Law Firm willing to give back to the community. Additionally, the Mayor called on other organizations to follow our firm’s lead in giving back to the community. He stressed that this is an especially difficult holiday season for the less fortunate, with the high price of gas and heating oil.

This year marked the tenth anniversary of the Hupy Law Firm Thanksgiving Basket Program. This Thanksgiving we also donated $2500 to the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee and $2500 to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The Thanksgiving basket program is an example of Michael F. Hupy & Associates’ tradition of giving back to the Community. The Hupy Law Firm also donates food baskets around the Christmas Holiday through the Second Harvest Food Bank, and gives scholarships to deserving Milwaukee youth, among dozens of other community projects.

JASON ABRAHAM'S DAY WITH BRETT FAVRE

July 12, 2005, started off like every other workday. I got up before 6:00 a.m. with the intention of being to work shortly after 7:00 a.m. For some unknown reason, I decided to turn on the television as I was getting ready to leave for work. At that exact moment, the head of the U.S. Bank Golf Championship, held annually in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was on the news stating that someone would have a once in a lifetime opportunity to be Brett Favre’s caddie for the day.

As I drove to work, I continued to think about what an amazing opportunity it would be to meet a future Hall of Fame quarterback who seems to be just like a "regular guy." I kept thinking of this opportunity throughout the day and finally decided to go to the U.S. Bank Championship website to get more of the details. When I arrived at the website, it stated that they would take bids for this opportunity by e-mail only and the auction would end on July 14, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. The bidding began at $1,500.00. While at the website, I learned that, the previous year, the championship had donated approximately $600,000.00 to charities after the event. When I reviewed the list of approximately 30 charities, I noticed that these local charities were some to which my firm had not donated in the past. As a result, I decided to give it a shot and try to be Brett Favre’s caddy.

Starting at around 6:30 p.m., with bidding for this opportunity set to close at 7:00 p.m. on July 14th, I sat by my computer hoping I would be the lucky one. At approximately 6:59 and 55 seconds the high bid was $3,100.00. In an instant, I pressed the enter key on my computer to give a bid to charity in the amount of $3,600.00 to be Brett Favre’s caddy. At 7:02, I received the call with the news that many Wisconsin residents would love to hear: I was going to be Brett Favre’s caddy the following Monday.

As you can imagine, I was like a 5-year-old child in a candy store, excited from head to toe. All weekend long, I started thinking about what I would say? How would he respond to me? What I should and shouldn’t ask about? By the end of the weekend, I realized that the most important thing I could do was be respectful and honor his privacy.

On July 18, 2005 at 9:00 a.m., I arrived at Brown Deer Golf Course in Milwaukee, as nervous as though it was my first day of high school. I was in the parking lot waiting when Brett Favre arrived in his limousine after being flown in for the event on a private plane. With him were his agent and his brother, Scott. I was immediately introduced to #4 as his caddy. I asked him how he would like to be addressed, and he said "Brett, of course." He then asked me if I was a professional caddy, to which I respond "No, I am just a diehard fan who paid $3,600.00 to charity to carry your bag." With that, we both chuckled and started our 5-hour day filled with memories that will last me a lifetime.

Throughout the day, I learned that, although Brett Favre would probably be recognized on almost any street in the United States, he is just a regular guy. He indicated to me that there were no topics off limits, and we talked about everything from family to football. We discussed past and current coaches and players; Super Bowls that were won and lost; and his desire to finish on top. The media hung on his every word and every swing. Throughout the whole day, he made me feel comfortable, we shared laughs and even a hamburger. The experience far exceeded my expectations, and I will cherish the memories throughout my lifetime. It was an honor to given $3,600.00 to local charities in order to spend 5 hours with a legend and gentleman.

LAW FIRM DONATES $10,000 AT NAACP CONVENTION

Our law firm donated $10,000 at the NAACP Convention held in Milwaukee in July of 2005. $3,500 went to sponsor an exhibit honoring Attorney Lloyd Barbee, founder of this law firm. Barbee started the lawsuit that integrated the Milwaukee Public Schools several decades ago.

$6,500 was donated to carry on our tradition of providing college scholarships for the less fortunate. The money was given to the NAACP Scholarship Fund to be used for local students.

Attorney Jason Abraham spoke at the lawyer's reception held on July 11, 2005. Judge Maxine White, long-time civil rights leader Attorney Vel Phillips and approximately fifty other people attended the reception.

ATTORNEY TEENA ABRAHAM HELPS GRAVELY ILL GIRL GET SURGERY

Last December, Attorney Teena Abraham answered her doorbell to find her neighbor standing in the cold. The neighbor asked "Teena can you help my niece, Lexi"

14-year-old Lexi Georgeff was diagnosed at birth with Chronic Neuropathic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction, a medical condition that prevented Lexi from eating. For 10 hours each night Lexi received her nutrition through IV’s. Receiving nutrition in this manner for a lengthy period of time however, can cause liver damage. Though in and out of hospitals for this disorder since birth, Lexi led a fairly normal and active life. In November of 2004 Lexi’s health drastically deteriorated. Lexi and her parents were informed by physicians that Lexi was in liver failure and that her other vital organs were shutting down. Lexi’s only hope for survival would be a multi-organ transplant of the liver, pancreas, stomach and intestines. Lexi’s doctors referred the family to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh because of their highly respected and specialized reputation for success in complex multi-organ transplants.

As the family explained to Abraham, Lexi was a Katie Beckett recipient, a state assistance program for children with long term illnesses. When the family requested the necessary approval for Lexi’s transplant in Pittsburg it was denied. They were told the surgery would have to be performed in Wisconsin. The family was frustrated that this life and death decision for their daughter was not theirs to make. Abraham set out to help.

First, Abraham reviewed the state’s General Assistance Statute to determine Lexi’s rights and whether the State could actually deny or limit the family’s choice of hospital. Abraham found that only under certain circumstances could the family’s request be denied.

Second, Abraham reviewed medical literature and detailed statistical comparisons between the Pittsburgh and Wisconsin hospitals. Abraham found that Pittsburgh was "qualified" as a transplant hospital by Medicare where the hospital in Wisconsin was not. To be "qualified" as a Medicare approved transplant hospital a hospital must perform a minimum number of transplants per year and have a greater than 50% success rate.

Abraham presented this information to the family and subsequently the state. The following day, Lexi’s request to have the transplant surgery performed in Pittsburgh was approved and Lexi left the following Monday for evaluation. Lexi’s was immediately placed at the top of Pittsburgh’s transplant list. Upon completion of the evaluation, Lexi’s family was informed by Pittsburgh’s transplant team that two very important issues had to be addressed upon their return home. The first, arrival at the Pittsburg Hospital had to be guaranteed within 6 hours of notification of a donor. Second, as Lexi would have to stay in Pittsburgh for up to 1 year following the surgery, fund-raising efforts would be necessary.

There was a very little time (3 ½ weeks) to organize and raise the money needed. With the assistance of Lexi’s aunt, Abraham organized a fund-raising event at a downtown Milwaukee nightclub. Music, martinis, food, and a "live" and silent auction! Companies had to be contacted from all over the country and persuaded to donate very large ticket items in order to raise the kind of money needed in such a short time. Abraham’s trial experience played a significant role in obtaining these items. As in a trial to a jury, Abraham had to present Lexi’s cause to the vendors, establish a relationship of trust with them, form creative arguments as to why Lexi’s cause was unique and finally to persuade the vendors to donate the very expensive items. The event was an overwhelming success!

On April 30, 2005, at about 6:30 p.m., Lexi was contacted. Donor organs were available. Lexi was escorted by sheriff to the airport where a volunteer pilot and plane waited to take her to Pittsburg. Lexi was prepped for a 4:30 a.m. surgery. A half hour before her scheduled surgery doctors determined that the organs were not viable and Lexi’s surgery was cancelled. Lexi arrived back in Milwaukee by 7:00 a.m. that same morning. Lexi’s condition grew more critical daily as she awaited her only hope for a future.

June 29, 2005, Lexi was contacted again. Another viable donor! Lexi and her family were so excited yet very scared. This time the surgery went underway! 2 hours into the surgery surgeons had to stop. Lexi’s body was too ravaged to undergo the transplant. Lexi died about an hour later cradled in the arms of her parents.

Abraham attended Lexi’s funeral, which focused on Lexi’s brave life, not her death. As Abraham recalls, Lexi’s fight for life caused people to "pause", and find a way to help someone in desperate need, because sometimes you just have to!

FOOD BASKETS INSTEAD OF CHRISTMAS CARDS

Instead of spending thousands of dollars every year to see that our clients and friends get “one more” Christmas card, we have instead donated this money to annually pay for up to two hundred gift baskets to provide meals for the needy at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Working through Wisconsin’s Second Harvest of America and the talent for Christ Radio program, we have provided thousands of meals over the last several years.

We do not want anyone to think that we forgot them at Christmas, but we know most of our friends would rather have us donate to these worthy causes.

We were very rewarded when we received the following letter:

November 29, 2004

Dear Friends,

Thank you so very much for the wonderful Thanksgiving basket. Your kindness and generosity are a blessing for me and my son. It really made our Thanksgiving that much more special. We are thankful to have people like you in the world. Thanks a bunch.

Sincerely,

L.E.

JUDGE GREG MATHIS SPEAKS AT ANNUAL HARVEST OF HOPE DINNER

The Center for Teaching Entreneurship (CTE) held its anual Harvest of Hope dinner on November 18, 2004. CTE's mission is teaching young people from Milwaukee's central city how to start and run their own businesses. The Center has taught these important skills to hundreds of students over the past 10 years. Attorney Michael F. Hupy is President of the Center's Board of Directors.

The Harvest of Hope dinner was held at the Italian Community Center on Milwaukee's East Side. Judge Greg Mathis, of television fame, addressed an enthusiastic audience of nearly 400 CTE participants and supporters.

Along with Attorneys Michael F. Hupy and Jason F. Abraham, dignitaries attending the Harvest of Hope dinner included Milwaukee Circuit Court Judge Maxine White, who served as Mistress of Ceremonies, and Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judges Frederick Rosa and Mary Triggiano. COUPLE ATTENDS URBAN LEAGUE BALL AND ENDS UP IN HOLLYWOOD

When Jeanne and Andy Lien, attended the Black and White Ball in Milwaukee, they had no idea they would end up on a trip to Hollywood donated by Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C. and Attorney Hupy’s good friend, Leslie Easterbrook.

“We had the time of our lives,” said Jeanne Lien. We saw the Jay Leno Show, met Henry Winkler (a.k.a. ‘The Fonz’) on a movie set and had dinner at Spagos with actress Leslie Easterbrook (Captain Calahan from The Police Academy and Rhonda on Laverne & Shirley) and her husband…it was like being a celebrity for the whole trip. Leslie and her husband were our personal guides the entire time. It was fascinating and so much fun.” Leslie’s husband, Dan Wilcox, was the Producer of M.A.S.H., The Cosby Show, and Newhart.

“We had an once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Andrew Lien. “We have gone to the Black & White Ball for several years and decided to bid on the trip since we hadn’t had a vacation since our honeymoon. It was a win-win. We felt good about donating the money to the Milwaukee Urban League and we walked away with a vacation,” he explained.

Jeanne and Andy thanked Michael Hupy for his generosity. “He originally donated the trip to the Milwaukee Urban League for the Black & White Ball and was great to work with on the trip. We will never forget our trip to Hollywood ,” said Jeanne.

On September 14, 2004, the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Showhouse, a non-profit organization, presented a check for $350,000.00 to T. Michael Bolger, President of the Medical College of Wisconsin. The Hupy family donated the use of the home at 4640 North Lake Drive as this year's Breast Cancer Showhouse as part of our commitment to giving back to the community. The check presented to Bolger represents the net amount of proceeds from the Breast Cancer Showhouse and other activities sponsored by the committee this summer. This is the largest amount ever raised and presented to the Medical College of Wisconsin for breast cancer research.

About 200 people attended the appreciation dinner sponsored by our law firm on the evening of September 14, 2004. The guests sitting at the Hupys’ table included Mr. and Mrs. Bolger, Mr. and Mrs. James Gehl and Eileen Dubner, one of the driving forces behind the Breast Cancer Showhouse since its inception seven years ago, when the original donation to the Medical College was $42,000.00

FOOD NOT CARDS

Several years ago, we started the practice of donating money to various local food programs instead of sending Christmas cards. We thought this would be more appropriate than adding one more card to your collection.

BAR RECOGNIZES CONTRIBUTIONS OF HUPY LAW FIRM

HUPY LAW FIRM SEEKS TO PROTECT AREA CHILDREN

Every year, on average, over 1.6 million children go missing in America. In Wisconsin, on average, 700 to 800 children are reported missing each month by law enforcement. These children are either the victims of kidnapping, runaways from home, or abandoned by their parents.

Recognizing that protecting our children should be our community’s first priority, Attorney Chad Kreblin at the Law Offices of Michael F. Hupy & Associates started the Hupy Identification Program in 2001. Since that time, the law office has fingerprinted over 5,500 Milwaukee area youths.

The Hupy Law Firm Child Identification Fingerprint America Program is a continuing effort by Michael F. Hupy& Associates to assist parents in maintaining updated identification records of their children. As part of the program, parents receive a free plastic covered identification packet, which includes contact information, child fingerprints, photograph of the child, a DNA sample and space for the child’s dentist and physician to include dental and physical characteristics.

Recently, Attorney Kreblin fingerprinted over a thousand children at the Blessed Hope Assembly of God Church annual festival, a back-to-school health fair hosted by the Milwaukee Health Department, and an open house at Clair Mohammed School. Annual Events that have featured the Michael F. Hupy & Associates Fingerprint America Program are National Night Out, Lisbon LandFare, Sam’s Safety Days, Sherman Park Days, and other various church gatherings and block parties. Through Attorney Kreblin’s efforts an entire elementary school in Cudahy was fingerprinted in 2004.

GREEN BAY PACKER STAR DARREN SHARPER AND HUPY LAW FIRM

Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., joined Darren Sharper, Green Bay Packer Free Safety, Second Harvest of Wisconsin and DCT Sports in providing a “Kid’s Café” Thanksgiving Dinner for approximately 300 needy children. The dinner, held at the YMCA Northside on Monday, November 24, 2003, was attended by Attorneys Michael F. Hupy and Jason Abraham of our law firm. Darren Sharper brought along his Green Bay Packer teammate Marques Anderson.

Although Darren Sharper hails from Virginia and plays in Green Bay, he has taken it upon himself to do something positive for the people of Milwaukee. His participation, since 1999, in the Thanksgiving dinners given by our local Kid’s Café is a reflection of his commitment.

In 2002, Mr. Sharper announced that he would help Second Harvest of Wisconsin fund its statewide children’s initiative by endorsing its Children’s Endowment Fund. Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., backed Mr. Sharper’s endorsement by pledging $5,000.00 as the Fund’s founding gift. In 2003, the Children’s Endowment Fund raised more that $55,000.00. Attorney Hupy has publicly commended Darren Sharper for his efforts on behalf of residents throughout Wisconsin.

Second Harvest of Wisconsin is an outstanding organization. It provides meals for the needy throughout the state on a year round basis. To help, send your contribution to Second Harvest, 1700 West Fond du Lac Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53205-1299. To become a Second Harvest volunteer, call (414) 931-7400.

Nettles, Secretary of the Department of Commerce, and Hupy spoke to a crowd of about 300. CTE Helps teach young people how to run a business.

HUPY CHILD IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

In and effort to protect our children and promote safety in our community, Michael F. Hupy and Associates, S.C., has spearheaded a child fingerprint identification program. The program, which our law firm began in 2000, was highlighted in Milwaukee’s Dineen Park for the annual National Night Out event on August 6 2002. The program was considered a huge success as the Hupy Law Firm fingerprinted nearly 300 children.

The National Night Out event is designed to promote police-community partnerships which will assist in eliminating crime, drugs and violence, and promote safety and neighborhood involvement. Nationally, over ninety-seven hundred communities and thirty-three million people participate in the event annually. There were more than one thousand participants at Dineen Park alone. Joining the Hupy Law Firm at the event were Milwaukee Aldermen, Fire Department and Police Department representatives, and other community leaders.

The Hupy Identification Program provides parents with a child identification packet that allows parents to keep updated information on their children. The identification packet contains a photo, fingerprints, a DNA sample and dental and medical information for each child. Attorney Michael Hupy was eager to participate in the program. “Our children are our most precious asset, and therefore, we believe our involvement in the program is a vital service to the community,” Hupy stated.

The Hupy Law Firm has also joined other state organizations in calling for the implementation of the Amber Alert system in Wisconsin. The system would interrupt radio and television broadcasts with immediate news of child abductions so motorists as well as authorities can be on the lookout. The system has been implemented in 41 communities nationwide, is credited with saving at least 17 children, including two California girls abducted in August 2002.

Perhaps at no other time has the need for programs such as the Hupy Identification Program and Amber Alert been so great. Recent disappearances and kidnappings, including Milwaukee’s Alexis Patterson, have heightened our awareness of the need for child identification. “If the Hupy Law Firm fingerprints thousands of children and our program saves the life of just one child, I would consider it a major success,” Attorney Chad Kreblin stated at the National Night Out event. If you have an event or program at which you would like Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., to fingerprint children, please contact Attorney Kreblin at (414) 223-4800.

HUPY DONATES $5,000.00 TO STURGIS MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM

The law firm of Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., is deeply committed to supporting charities and community projects. Motorcycle riders have always been beneficiaries of that commitment.

On Wednesday, August 7, 2002, Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., donated $5,000.00 to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame and became one of its corporate sponsors. The mission of the Museum, which opened its doors on June 1, 2001, is to preserve the great history of motorcycling and to honor the men and women who have made motorcycling the great pastime that it is today. (Sturgis, South Dakota was selected as the location for the motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame because it is the site of an annual gathering of motorcyclists form all over America, the largest such rally held in the United States.)

This year’s inductees into the Hall of Fame included publisher Malcolm Forbes, Secretary of Health and Human Services and former Wisconsin Governor, Tommy Thompson, talk show host Jay Leno, and actor Branscombe Richmond.

Everyone at our law firm is especially proud of Tony Sanfelipo, Motorcycle Case Specialist at Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C. On June 21, 2002, Tony was the first person inducted into the Hall of Fame in a special category for “Freedom Fighters”.

Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., is happy to participate in preserving this piece of Americana for future generations to enjoy. It is another example of our commitment to community service.

SHARPER AND HUPY HIT HARD AT HUNGER

For the third straight year, Green Bay Packer defensive star Darren Sharper and the Hupy law firm helped Second Harvest feed nearly 350 children at the Kid’s Café Thanksgiving Dinner. This year’s dinner was held on November 21, 2000 at the Capitol Christian Center. It was even more exciting for the children than last year because Darren Sharper brought along teammates Antonio Freeman and Brian Williams.

Although Sharper is from Virginia and plays in Green Bay, he took it upon himself to do something positive for the people of Milwaukee. His annual participation in the dinners at the Kid’s Café is a reflection of his commitment. Attorney Hupy has publicly commended Sharper for his efforts.

Many people are not aware of the good work that Second Harvest does. It provides meals for the needy throughout Wisconsin on a year round basis. Without Second Harvest and other similar organizations, people would literally go without food. If you would like to contribute to Second Harvest, their address is 1700 West Fond du Lac Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53205-1299. You can call them at (414) 931-7400 if you would like to volunteer to help out in their warehouse. Second Harvest and the good work it does has the full support of the Hupy Law firm.

Our firm also worked with various organizations this past year to provide meals to families at Easter and Christmas.

The children left the dinner in November with happy memories of seeing their Packer heroes. May went home with autographs to be kept in a safe place for years and years.

$17,000.00 DONATED TO NAACP SCHOLARSHIP FUND

“To Do Well By Doing Good” is part of our law firm’s Mission Statement. In the last year and a half, for example, we have donated $17,000.00 to the Scholarship Fund of the Milwaukee Chapter of the NAACP. Our recent $10,000.00 donation to the fund was made at the Chapter’s Freedom Dinner held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Saturday, September 16, 2000.

Among the nearly seven hundred people attending the dinner were Judge Louis Butler, Judge Maxine White, Judge Vince Bobot and Joseph Wall, the candidate for a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judgeship, U.S. Congressman Thomas Barrett, and other public officials.

Dr. John Powell, University of Minnesota professor, delivered the keynote address on Race Relations in the United States.

In addition to our NAACP Scholarship fund contributions, Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., has donated more than $60,000.00 to other scholarships programs including the WMCS 1290 Radio Scholarship fund, the Fiesta Mexicana Scholarship program and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Police Science Program. Our Law firm believes strongly in the importance of education. Attorney Hupy sits on the Board of Advisors of a choice school in Milwaukee and formerly served on the City of Milwaukee Library Board. He is also President of the Board of Directors of the Center for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

GREEN BAY PACKER STAR AND HUPY LAW FIRM FEED NEEDY AT THANKSGIVING

Green Bay Packer defensive star, Darren Sharper, and our law firm helped feed 300 needy people at the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club on Thanksgiving Day and another 300 needy people at homeless shelters.

At a press conference before Thanksgiving, Attorney Hupy commended Sharper for his contribution to the people of Milwaukee. Although Sharper is from Virginia and plays for Green Bay, he took it upon himself to do something positive for the people of Milwaukee by working with our law firm to help Second Harvest provide Thanksgiving meals.

May people are not aware of the good work that Second Harvest does. From its 40,000 square foot warehouse in Milwaukee, it provides meals for the needy throughout the year in almost the entire state of Wisconsin. It is planning to double the size of its facility to 80,000 square feet.

Second Harvest and the good work it does has our full support. Without Second Harvest and other similar organizations, people would literally go without food.

In 1998, we worked with Second Harvest to provide 600 meals at Thanksgiving. In addition, we worked with Second Harvest and a church organization to provide meals to 200 additional families at Easter and 200 more families at Christmas.

At its annual dinner in 1998, Second Harvest gave our law firm the 1998 Hunger’s Hope Award for our contribution to alleviating hunger.

We have received many letters from people who were grateful for having been able to take part in our meals programs. If you would like to contribute to Second Harvest, their address in 1700 West Fond du Lac Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53205-1299.

HUPY & ASSOCIATES COURSE SAVES LIFE

Part of the mission statement of the Law Offices of Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., is to do well by doing good. One of the things we have done to accomplish this objective is to sponsor a safety course for motorcyclists. The main part of the course is taught by nurses and paramedics, who teach participants what to do in the case of an accident before the ambulance arrives. Our firm contributed over $4,000.00 to start the program. First aid kits are made available at cost to participants. Others involved in the program include nurses from Wausau Hospital, who originated the idea, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The program has been given throughout the State of Wisconsin since January 1996. The program has been so well received that we are going to present it in at least five locations in Wisconsin during 1998. The program has also been presented, by request, in Tennessee. Members of our law firm participate in organizing and lecturing at the program on aspects of accident scene management dealing with the law and the investigation of accidents. If a claim is going to be made as a result of an accident, it is important to have an attorney involved as soon as possible so he can preserve important evidence. Those who attended the course were asked to rate on a scale of one to four, with four being the highest score, how good they thought the program was. The average score is 3.759. The biggest complaint about the course is that it was not long enough.

To meet the concern we gave an expanded course at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee on two consecutive days in the fall of 1997.

The course is open to the public and free of charge. In the spring of 1997, Dan Chronister took the course in Madison. It is fortunate that he did because what he learned saved his wife’s life.

In the summer of 1997, he and his wife were riding their motorcycles on a U.S. Highway, when they came upon a sudden hot weather pavement elevation in the road that sent both bikes airborne. Dan remembers seeing Chris’ tires at eye level. Each of the Chronisters had a son riding on their bike with them. When her bike stopped rolling, Chris lay motionless on the side of the road. She was not breathing and she did not have a pulse. The only way to save Chris’ life was for Dan to revive her by using what he had learned in our course. Dan attended to his wife bringing her back to life.

For more information about when the course may be given, please contact our law office and ask for Tony. Although our law firm supports many education and safety programs, we can think of no better way to give back to the community than by helping save someone’s life.

MICHAEL F. HUPY & ASSOCIATES GIVES $50,000.00

The Law Offices of Michael F. Hupy & Associates, S.C., has continued our tradition of giving back to the community. In 1997, as in every one of the previous five years, our firm was a major sponsor of the WMCS Radio 1290 Scholarship Fund. Our 1997 contribution of $10,000.00 brought our five year total to $50,000.00.

The scholarship fund is designed to help students who might not otherwise be able to attend college because of limited financial means. The other major sponsors of the fund include the Dow Chemical Company. WMCS Radio Station owner Willie Davis, former Green Bay Packers great, is on the Board of Directors of Dow Chemical.

High school students from throughout the area competed for the grants provided by the fund. The scholarships were presented to the winners of that competition at the Eighth Annual Banquet, held on the evening of May 2, 1997, at the Hyatt Hotel.
